Latest Rumors of the iPhone 13

There’s been a ton of buzz on the next iPhone, and the excitement is only growing as we move closer to September. During WWDC, which is rumored by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman to be entirely virtual, four new iPhone 13 models are expected to be announced: iPhone 13 Mini, Standard iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Here are some of the features rumored to be included in the iPhone 13.

The Display

It’s believed that only the Pro versions of the iPhone 13 will feature “ProMotion” technology, meaning the screens would have refresh rates up to 120Hz, giving the user an overall smoother experience. This is probably made possible by an OLED LTPO display panel. In addition, according to Mark Gurman, the iPhone 13 could come with an always-on display similar to the Apple Watch Series 5 and 6, allowing users to see the time, date and notifications whenever they wish.

The Battery

According to Twitter user @L0vetodream, a leaker whose leaks are often proven correct, the iPhone 13’s batteries will be larger than the iPhone 12’s. The following table gives a comparison of each model’s reported battery capacities:

iPhone 13iPhone 12
Mini2,406mAh2,227mAh
Standard3,095mAh2,815mAh
Pro3,095mAh2,815mAh
Pro Max4,352mAh3,687mAh

And good news, reportedly, the new iPhone will have wireless charging speeds up to 25W, an improvement compared to previous iPhone models with speeds up to 20W.

The Processor

Rather than using the A14 chip, the iPhone 13 will feature the A15 chip since, according to supply chain sources, Apple has ordered over 100 million A15 chips that will be produced by TSMC. The A15 chip will have better performance and power efficiency than the A14 chip. It’s also been reported that the chip will include a six-core CPU. According to MacRumors, four are high-efficiency cores and two are high-performance cores.

The Design

If you like the iPhone 12’s design, then here’s some good news for you, the iPhone 13’s design isn’t expected to be too different from its predecessor’s. The size is expected to be more or less the same:

  • iPhone 13 Mini: 5.4 inches
  • iPhone 13: 6.1 inches
  • iPhone 13 Pro: 6.1 inches
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max: 6.7 inches

One of the biggest differences, however, is a rumored smaller notch. Digitimes reports that this will be done by reducing the VCSEL chips used in Face ID by about 40% to 50%. Furthermore, the iPhone 13 is expected to be a tad heavier and thicker. And way back in 2019, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that there would be one 2021 iPhone that would be portless. Could this be referring to the iPhone 13 Pro Max? Only time will tell. Finally, according to a leaker on a South Korean message board, the color choices will be Black, Silver, Rose Gold, and Sunset Gold (a bronze-like color).

The Camera

Although the camera bump will allegedly be a bit thicker, the iPhone 13’s camera will be much better than the iPhone 12’s. It’s been rumored that every iPhone 13 model will receive camera sensors similar to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Additionally, non-Pro models may have a diagonal dual-camera system (consisting of a main and ultrawide camera) rather than the iPhone 12’s vertical dual-camera system. ETNews also reports that the iPhone 13 might have a periscope camera, which would expand the iPhone 13’s zooming capabilities. Many also believe there will be an ultrawide-angle lens with a larger aperture (f1.8 rather than f2.4). If this is true, users will see an improvement in nighttime and low-light photographs.

The Return of Touch ID?

Recently, Apple made a patent called, “Electronic device display for through-display imagining.” According to this patent, a camera that could be used for “fingerprint imaging, iris imaging, face recognition, and so on” would be placed beneath the display. This suggests that Touch ID might make a comeback in the iPhone 13 (but to be frank, it’ll most likely be featured in a much later iPhone model).

Conclusion

Even though all of these features are merely speculation and rumor, it’s still exciting, nonetheless. What are you hoping to see in the new iPhone? Or is there something you’re hoping not to see?
